How an apostille works

An apostille is a uniform certificate that the Singapore Academy of Law affixes to vouch that a document is authentic for other Hague Convention states. Between member countries it stands in for the old multi-step embassy legalisation, so that single certificate lets the destination treat the document as genuine.

Which countries need it

The Convention covers most countries, and they will take an apostille. A small number sit outside it and continue to require consular legalisation through the relevant embassy instead. Name the destination and we will confirm which path applies before anything begins.
